Problem with fonts suddenly going jagged/blurred

We've been using white text (with outlining) on image backgrounds for a long time. I was just asked to convert to black text on a plain gray background (the JPG for that was supplied). I started with cues from a previous script, and when I selected text and changed it to black, the font was no longer crisp, but jagged and blurred (in the editing area, the page area, and the main display window. When I click on the text in the editing area, it briefly changes back to crisp/normal, but if I click away, it goes back to blurry. The result was the same if I changed the background image first or changed the font color first. I also tried other background images, and any other approach I could think of (e.g., turning off and on the outlining). Picture attached. I am stumped, as I have never seen this happen before.

Hey Margo!

This is definitely odd. As weird as it sounds can you try changing the font type for me and then adjusting the color? I'm curious if a different font still gives this issue.

Thanks!

Yes, Ben. I copied in a cue from another script. I selected the (white, outlined in black) text and changed it from Arial to Times Roman; it still looked okay. When I selected that text and changed the color to black, I got the same thick, blurry results.

Gotcha,

I can confirm I'm seeing this on my end. It looks like this is definitely an issue that in doing further testing has been corrected in MediaShout 7. That being said, you may see better results in that program. As far as MediaShout 6 goes, try setting the text to a very very dark grey color. It looks black but it isn't "true black" which is the color that seems to be giving us the jagged appearance. Testing it out with that dark grey looks great!
