Anyone else having issues importing PowerPoints. Everytime we import one we have to rescale the whole thing slide by slide.

We determined it was best (and more controllable) to use the import as Images option. With that, as long as the powerpoint slides are set up to match the screen size, it scales appropriately. For any screen effects in the slideshow, you have to build out each slide so it's a tad bit more work on the front end but more reliable and easier to manage in MS.

Hey Charles and Jeff,

Yes, we have noticed that importing some PowerPoints as Presentation causes the background and things to be resized into the upper left-hand corner of the page. This is something the Development Team is working on to be improved in a future update. I apologize about that.

As Jeff suggested, importing as Images seems to work really well for now. Thanks for that suggestion, Jeff!

Thanks and God Bless,

I'm looking forward to some resolution on this issue as we currently can only import a powerpoint as images meaning that we can't make use of powerpoint animation and this is something our worship team is really hounding me about as they like to use this facility in services.

Hey Nicholas,

The majority of the PPT or PPTX files import as a presentation just fine. It is only certain files that have trouble. We expect this to be improved and fixed in the next update (hopefully coming in the next couple of weeks).

Thanks,

Thanks Ryan. Can you tell me which type of pot and pots files load OK? I haven't been able to get any PowerPoint file to load.

Nicholas,

I am not aware of which ones work and which don't. I have just seen plenty that work but I have also seen some that don't.

Feel free to email your PowerPoint files that don't work to Support@MediaShout.com so we can take a look at them as well.

Nicholas,

Perfect, that means the team already has your files as examples to determine the cause for this. I am told they have some good improvements on the coming update (hopefully in the next couple of weeks).

The ticket will get closed automatically. Then, if you ever need to reopen it, just respond to that ticket and it will reopen so we continue.

Thanks,

I've done some experimentation on the issues I've been having with importing pptx files and, in case it may help others or your development team, here's what I found:
1 Any text or graphics put into a Slide Master in pptx will not be imported - workaround = copy items from the Slide Master and paste them into the Normal Slide
2 Some text boxes and graphics in Normal Slides are not imported (this seems to be random - some do and some don't - I haven't figured what makes the difference) - workaround = save the graphic from pptx as a picture and paste it into the imported file in MediaShout using the 'insert media' feature. For text = cut and paste from pptx to the slide in Mediashout
3 Animations aren't imported - workaround = ensure all the required animated items are showing OK and that they each have a button showing under the 'Layers' tab. You can then toggle them all off before presenting and toggle each one on in the required sequence. You can do this whether Presenter View is on or off.
Like all workarounds, they're tedious but at least you can get everything to work until the update solves the bugs.

Now an even better solution - save the Powerpoint file as a 'Powerpoint Picture Presentation' - it will then work fine in Medaishout.

Thanks for your suggestions, Nicholas! These are great. We do have some great improvements regarding Powerpoint import in the next update which we are testing and hope to be able to release very soon. At that point, one of the options we have (either Powerpoint to jpeg conversion to import, or conversion of the PPT file itself) will hopefully get users very close to where they want to be. As a note on your steps when you mention importing individual layers to MediaShout and using the "eye" button on the layers tab to toggle them- you can actually go ahead and assign them to "steps" using the transitions plugin to the right of MediaShout. That way, if you have a page with several items you want to come in one at a time in order as you advance, you can do that, just like in Powerpoint.

Hi Ryan - we had an arrow inserted in a powerpoint slide and it didn't come in when we imported the powerpoint. Plus we were having issues with the resizing and it was very time consuming to be editing over 20 slides. Some words had no spaces between them as well after the import. We are using power point outside of media shout and use the F2 shortcut to turn off the displays as Media Shout takes over the displays if you want to use another program outside Media Shout (is this correct?). Question - is the update finished yet for this problem?

Robyn,

Was the arrow inserted an image/graphic?

Your best bet would be to build this in MediaShout. That way, you don't have to worry about what will get carried over when you import the PPT.

Yes, that is correct.

Sorry, what update are you referring to?

Thanks,

Hi Ryan Firstly the arrow was inserted as a shape bathe reason we use PowerPoint is because it contains sermon scriptures, images for the sermon and quotes for the sermon. We have to always resize it so for over 20 slides that is very time consuming. I don’t know if the sermon builder would help. Either way the update I was referring to is the response you made to Nicholas on Feb 6 “ Hey Nicholas,

Robyn,

Ah, I see. Yes, we are still working to improve the PowerPoint functionality in MediaShout 7. With every update, it gets improved.
