Hi,
Can you get an NDI output from mediashout?
I want to use vmix and ndi rather than desktop capture. Is this possible?

Hey Paul,

Great question! The answer is yes! NDI should work totally fine with MediaShout. In fact, we have an entire article on syncing the two together. If you go to www.mediahsout.com/ndi, you'll find the steps there!

Let me know if you have any other questions! God bless :)

Thnaks Ben for the reply. I had read the article, but I think I right in saying this is for two computers.
Can you display to NDI instead of to screen? Thus on one computer you could imput the display of Mediuashout to Vmix as an NDI source.
Thanks

You're welcome!

I believe you're on the right track with that! We're not really experts per se when it comes to NDI, and in this case, I'd recommend reaching out to whatever type of support they have available for deeper information.

It sounds like you're moving in the right direction though! :)

Hi Ben,
Not really an answer from them. You can do a desktop capture, but as MediaShout does not have an NDI output/display there is no other type of connection. Both Propresenter7 and Easyworship enable you to choose an NDI display. Ie your output goes directly to NDI and thus avoids the necessity of a second screen with a variety of complications.
Our church (in Australia) is still gathering via Zoom. I can share my MediaShout second monitor display easily, but going backwards and forwards between the two programs sometimes get confusing.
If MediaShout had NDI both Zoom and MediaShout could be directed via VMix or OBS. This would create a much easier recording or live stream. I note that Propresenter 7 in its latest release has live streaming built in. At least that’s what I read.
I like MediaShout but I am looking elsewhere to meet the demands of restrictions and what I anticipate will be an ongoing issue even when we are allowed to return.

I totally understand where you're coming from! It's something we do in fact plan on offering integration on in the future, and we're trying to get there as soon as we can!

I talked with Robyn via another email about making sure your cables are all plugged into the same video card that the system has and that should help some!

I hope I've been of some assistance here, and if you run into anything else, just let us know!

Hi Paul
Not sure what equipment you have but I have one PC that has a graphics card with just 2 display ports. I use one for all our TVs (display 2) at the church and the other is for our PC monitor. If you have 2 display ports on your graphics card then you can use that as display2 in Media Shout without having an actual physical display. I use VMix but we have a PC for Vmix and I bring on display 2 more than once Eg several inputs over NDI one of which I use for songs and in Vmix you can lower it to anywhere on your output screen Eg lower third and colour correct etc. Then to reduce workflow I use the Web controller to control the output for Vmix on a mobile device. Have done the free trials. Not sure if this makes sense?

Thanks for expanding on that Robyn! I think that that's the best way to go about this for sure. Forgive me, Paul, I think I assumed you and Robyn were working together and had access to the same email about what I'd recommend doing, and didn't realize this wasn't available to you both. What she is mentioning above seems to work for many users so if it's still giving you issues, let me know! :)

Hi Robyn and Ben,
Thanks for the reply. Im glad someone else is wondering the the same.
However i not clear about somethinks Robyn has mentioned. (maybe chopping wood all morning makes me a little tired as well.)
Some of my details first.
I am using a laptop and external monitor. The External moitor is set up as Display 2 and Display 1 is the Laptop screen.
Windows 10 is setup to extend the display across the displays.
Mediashout has its control screen on the laptop and is display screen on display 2.
If MediaShout does not detect a second screen then it displays on 1 only.
We have a ZOOM worship on Sunady mornigs. Usually I will host that meeting and share my screen using screen capture on display 2.
RObyn you made the comment that "you can use that as display2 in Media Shout without having an actual physical display." I'm not sure how that works if windows/Mediashout does not detect an second disply - connected.
I have used Vmix and mediaShout with MediaShout as a screen capture but not as NDI.
I wish to use the second display a the OOM monitor and feed that into Vmix. This is possible if I can get MediaShout to use a NDI as display..
The original article that Ben refered me to uses NDI scan converter and NDi Monitor for transmission over a network. I this what you are using?
Thanks for your help and patience.
Shalom

Hey, again Paul.

I wanted to say thanks for continuing to dig into this as I'm sure people reading your responses will gain a lot of information on how to stream and the process that it may take. I wish I knew more about it as well, and this is definitely helping me too! Here at MediaShout, our primary focus is a live presentation to an audience and while streaming isn't our "expertise" perse, we do work with some partners who are. Our friends at "BoxCast" and "Vidflex" are really great at answering a lot of streaming options, and though they sell their own pieces of hardware and software, I definitely would recommend reaching out to them and seeing if they have any thoughts on connecting to a live stream as you're intending to do. Maybe some of their hardware/software would be helpful for you guys in this situation as well! I recommended this to Robyn too, and I think that that is a good next step in getting some of these issues resolved. You can see their websites and contact information if you go to www.mediashout.com/streaming, but if you have further questions for me, please let me know!

Thank you so much and God bless! :)

Hey all,

Sorry to post on an older thread, but it is still a relevant topic.
I was hoping to maybe explain the situation in a different way and see if hopefully mediashout is working on a solution. While I understand mediashout may be focusing on live presentation to an audience, so are your competitors. They've also been innovating to definitely meet the needs of this new "normal".
When we had to move to streaming, something we had not done prior to 2020 the easiest solution was to capture the second monitor (our projector) for the broadcasting software, in order to overlay lyrics during worship. As we progressed we found it much nicer to make the text with a transparent background. This caused us to forgo our nice looking slide background for a solid color so that we could chroma key it out (like a green screen effect). This made our slides which project locally look meh (as they are on a black background), but at the time we did not care as nobody is in service.
Now that we are looking to allow in person worship, along with streaming, it would be nice to have both a clean slide for the stream, and also be able to have our nice background for those in person. However the only way to do that currently would be to plug in another monitor to use as a stage display. With other software such as propresenter, it's possible to set this third display as an NDI output, so it is virtual. That way we can achieve the same goal without having to plug in a third display that I'm just going to hide under the bench or something.

Hope this makes sense. I really hope this is a feature that may be on the near term feature list. We've been using mediashout for over a decade and I'd rather not have to switch and learn new software.

Hey Daniel!

No need to apologize for posting on this now! Conversation is always a benefit to us and it allows us to have a new perspective to pass on to the development team and to our customer service team which helps a ton, so no worries there!

That being said, I know I personally, as well as many users and colleagues of mine are in the same boat as you. We'd LOVE to see more integration with streaming platforms and tools to allow your job to be much easier. At the moment, we are working on some big changes that should be available shortly that will take care of a lot of the "basics" that we need to get in the program to enable the "core" functions MediaShout is known and loved for. We have a few more projects after this update that we have our main focus even after the update, but integrating some of the things you mentioned above hasn't slipped our mind at all!

We appreciate your support in this and I hope that this helps. If you have any questions or comments, don't hesitate to post them or email us at support@mediashout.com :)

I was just reading over this thread relating to NDI usage with MediaShout. Like many of us this year, we've had to work outside the box in providing streaming capability - with having some in-person and live streaming at same time. We have been using NDI for many months now; using a 3 display concept (though only using two monitors). The NDI is set to our third display which coincides with the Stage display in MediaShout. Our one tech person placed a dummied display connector to make the computer think there are three monitors hooked up; but then we just hit the input button on the monitor to switch between main operating display and stage display. The only time we need to switch to Stage usually is to correct the ROI on the Stage display to our streaming input (using Livestream Studio).
As someone mentioned already about Green Screen setting; we set the Stage Display to green screen and use lower third setting for our lyrics and bible reads for the streaming. Meanwhile we continue to use the main display with all the nice backgrounds for those that do show up in-person (limited of course). I hope this helps out the understanding using NDI with MediaShout. Understanding Paul that you are using a laptop may make it difficult to trick the three display concept; but overall I hope this helps you a bit better.

Interesting idea and concept! I'm glad this is working for you and hope others could do something like this without lack of stability or anything like that!

Thanks David!
