Importing MS6 scripts & Lyric formatting?

Is there any way to use MS6 scripts? Is there any way to import songs with not just the words, but with the formatting (esp. backgrounds & text placement & sizing)? If not, can we expect these features? If so, how soon can we expect them?

I tried out nearly every feature with the free trial, but never thought to try these two. Given how MS has done previous releases, It never occurred to me they wouldn't just work.

I see "importing MS6 scripts" is on the "coming soon" list. Wish I had paid more attention reading through that!
Still would like to know about the lyrics. That's pretty important to me. Thanks.

Hey Dan!

Here is an article that walks you through the process of bringing over your Song Library and your media and things: https://support.mediashout.com/950910-Making-the-Upgrade-to-MediaShout-7

Yes, the ability to import v6 scripts will be coming soon! I apologize about the inconvenience for that.

We do, however, usually recommend that you build a new Script in the new version of MediaShout anyway. But, we do still want the ability to be able to bring over a v6 script if needed in a pinch.

Have a Blessed day!

-Ryan

Hey Ryan!

My question was not about how to bring the song lyrics over. I've seen your page and followed your directions. (Which, incidentally, doesn't work. I can do an individual song or a handful of songs, but other than that it does nothing. I emailed support about that, and I'm still waiting for a reply.)

My question was about bringing the song library over WITH FORMATTING (with backgrounds, with word placement, etc.) I'd very much like to see that. There are hundreds, perhaps thousands, of hours invested in those song slides that I don't want to lose.

Thank you!

Dan

Hey Dan!

Ah, I see. This isn't possible, unfortunately. MediaShout 7 will only accept the content of the songs. Then, you would need to add a background and make your adjustments within MediaShout 7. I apologize about this.

When the Import a V6 Script feature is added, you will then have the ability to bring in a MediaShout 6 script and save your Lyric cue's to the cue's library. That will save the background and everything for next time you need this song.

I don't see an email from your in our inbox. But, what I have seen so far is that there is just one or two songs within the library that are causing the issue. If you can narrow it down and determine which songs are the problem, you can delete it and then import the rest with no issue.

When I did my troubleshooting, I would just take a part of the library (A-F, G-M, etc.). Then, if one doesn't import, I would narrow it down further and further until there are just a few songs.

I hope this is helpful!

-Ryan

Agree with Ryan that to add this feature would be a huge benefit. I've spent dozens of hours formatting song lyrics in MS6 and do not look forward to doing that again for 7.

I have to agree, we have likely hundreds of hours of fine tuning our MS6 song library and how they appear, not only on the front screen, but also the stage screen, including multiple text fields visible on different slides of songs etc. Please don't forget to include stage screen objects when you do include the option to import MS6 scripts.
I, for one, won't be able to upgrade until I know that works, even though I am getting very tired of completely random crashes in MS6.

Hey All!

Aaron West here (Director of Product Development). The plan is once we have the V6 Scripts import done, you will also have a way to import your V6 lyrics direct to the Cues Library in V7 (which will contain all formatting, backgrounds, etc.) that carry over. Be aware that there may be some configurations or settings that don't carry over (i.e. not all of the transitions are the same, so we will do our best to select a close matching one). But at least you will be able to get 98% (100% for most users) of what you have in V6 into V7. Because it is a completely different format as well as code base (which has significant improvements over previous script files), it does have some loss of functionality that is not possible to overcome. This all goes back to our desire to make sure that V7 is stable - period. There were things in V6 and previous versions (that I'm sure many of you experienced) that were great features, but caused stability issues. WIth V7, we don't add a feature unless we are confident in its ability to not negatively affect stability. That's why we are working very carefully on some of these more advanced tools to bring your V6 scripts into V7. Thanks for your patience as we work to get it right.

Be blessed!

Aaron West, Director of Product Development.

Thanks Aaron for the update.

I think many of us, are looking forward to that feature. It's a blocker for me. I can't upgrade to MS7 until there is an import process for the scripts/templates/etc. Just too much time involved in MS6 formatting (well, my wife's time, so that's even more critical).

Is there some page that can show the "missing" features from MS6?

The use of the import of scripts to move our MS6 song over sounds good but we have basically one scrip which the songs are updated, this means only 5 or 6 songs at a time of the 100's we have formated. As stated above not wanting to reinvest time.

Hi Jack,

I'm not sure I follow. Are you saying this option wouldn't work for you? If so, can you give me more information about your situation and how that wouldn't work?

Thanks!

-Ryan

It not that the import would not work but either a lots of imports with 5 songs each or make a script that just had all our songs in it. Ether way a lot of work.

Jack,

I apologize. I am having a hard time understanding what you mean. If you have scripts already built that have the songs loaded in them, you will be able to open those in v7 and save them to your Cues Library. I apologize if this would be a lot of work for you. Alternatively, you can import the entire Database and then apply new backgrounds to the songs as you bring them in and present them.

Thanks,

-Ryan
