Text Color change independent of font size

I often have lines which alternate between bold, non-italic and italic, non-bold and sometimes differing sizes. If all lines are selected and the color is changed, everything goes to non-bold, non-italic, intermediate size. Neither Outline or shadow affects font size or style. Can the font engine be modified to allow independence of color change or would that put it in the category of outline and shadow in that a change of color would perforce apply to all text in a cue and changing color of a single word or words would no longer be possible.
