With the rapid advancements in size and resolution of media displays, sometimes, figuring out what resolution to use for your presentations and your cues with MediaShout can get a bit confusing. Below is the best way to find the resolution that works best for your setup and for your software.
Choosing The Resolution For Creating Your Cues In The Software
MediaShout allows you to create cues in any resolution that you would like. When talking about resolution of cues, specifically referring to Aspect Ratios (beit 4:3 for Standard Projectors or 16:9 for new HD TVs), what you will want to do is find the resolution of the physical device that you are using to present MediaShout to your congregation.
Step 1: Determine the resolution of your presentation device
Step 2: Go to Settings/General Settings/Cue Setup
Step 3: Under Main Display, you will see a dropdown menu called “Display Resolution”, click that and find the resolution that matches the resolution of your presentation device
Step 4: Set the dropdown menu called “If the Cue Resolution…” to Resize the Cues.
The next 2 steps apply to users with a Stage Display
Step 5: Under Main Display, you will see a dropdown menu called “Display Resolution”, click that and find the resolution that matches the resolution of your presentation device
Step 6: Set the dropdown menu called “If the Cue Resolution…” to Resize the Cues.
Step 7: Click Apply and OK
Step 8: Click the main File menu and click Repaginate
Optimizing Your Devices To Run With MediaShout
As the cost of presentation devices fall and the resolution of those devices increase, more and more churches are updating their AV hardware. Often, however, when increasing the resolution of presentation devices, churches forget to update the capabilities of their computer graphics card. As a result, the load that is placed on the existing cards from high resolution devices can lead to unpredictable performance. The good news is there is a straightforward way to optimize your device for MediaShout.
If your device resolution is:
3840 x 2160
2560 x 1440
1920 x 1080
1600 x 900
1366 x 768
1280 x 720
Set your Windows Display Resolution to 1280 x 720
This will maintain your Aspect Ratio of 16:9 but dramatically reduce the load on your graphics card
If your device resolution is:
2048 x 1536
1920 x 1440
1856 x 1392
1600 x 1200
1440 x 1080
1400 x 1050
1280 x 960
1024 x 768
Set your Windows Display Resolution to 1024 x 768
This will maintain your Aspect Ratio of 4:3 but dramatically reduce the load on your graphics card
If your device resolution is:
2560 x 1600
1920 x 1200
1680 x 1050
1440 x 900
1280 x 800
Set your Windows Display Resolution to 1280 x 800
This will maintain your Aspect Ratio of 16:10 but dramatically reduce the load on your graphics card
Once you have changed the resolution in your Windows Display settings, open up MediaShout and go to Settings/General Settings/Cue Setup and change the Matched Display Resolution to reflect the change you've just made in Windows. Click Apply and OK and then File/Repaginate Cues.
As a reminder, if you do change the resolution in your Cue Setup, make sure that any computer you are using to create MediaShout scripts should also have the Cue Setup resolution changed to match.
