We recently began limiting software license activation to the most recent few releases of MediaShout 7. This was done to help ensure that our customers have the best possible experience, and we want to avoid situations where someone is running into problems with the software which we have already fixed or prevented in more recent updates. This limitation should generally allow several of the most recent releases to be activated, so it will still permit activation of a slightly older release if there is some technical or personal reason to not run the very latest update.
If you are attempting to activate a version of the software which is several releases old, you will see one of the following errors:
If you are running any release prior to 7.6.3, you will see this message:
If you are running v7.6.3 or newer, you will see this message:
If you see either if these errors, you will need to download the most recent installer from our website and upgrade the software before you can activate it. Please contact our support team if you have any questions or further problems with this.
Why is this happening:
It doesn't happen too often now that most users download our software directly from the website whenever they need to install on a new system, but sometimes people have a previous installer on their old computer, or they've saved a copy on a USB drive, and those builds can be really old. Those releases prior to 7.3.0—when we introduced the auto-update notification—are the most problematic because they will not let you know that you are running a really old, out of date, version of the software. The same thing will happen if your computer is not connected to the internet, so you might never realize that the issues you are having can easily be resolved by installing an update.
