MediaShout 7 - Can't Save file

MediaShout 7 Can't Save File Error

If you're seeing a "MediaShout 7 Can't Save File" error, check these common causes—most can be resolved quickly.

1. Check Your Disk Space

Low disk space on your C drive (primary drive) is the most common cause of save failures.

  1. Open File Explorer (folder icon at the bottom of your screen).
  2. Click This PC in the left column.
  3. Look at your C drive. If the indicator bar is red, your drive is too full. You'll need to free up space on your computer.

Clear old files, uninstall unused programs, or move large files to an external drive. Aim for at least 10-20% free space on your C drive.

2. Try saving the Script as .sc7

Saving your file as .sc7x takes up much more space - and can take much longer to save. Try saving a .sc7 to see if that allows you to save your work.

  1. With your Script open within MediaShout 7 go to File > Save As
  2. Under Save As Type, set it to .sc7
  3. Click Save

If it allows you to save it as .sc7, it is VERY likely that the issue is low disk space. Go back to number 1 and make sure you have PLENTY of space.

3. Check Image and Video Resolution

4K and ultra-high resolution media can cause save errors. MediaShout works best with 1920x1080 (1080p) or lower.

For images:

  1. Right-click the image file and select Properties.
  2. Click the Details tab.
  3. Under "Image," check the dimensions. They should be no higher than 1920x1080.

For videos:

  1. Right-click the video file and select Properties.
  2. Click the Details tab.
  3. Check the frame width and frame height. Both should be no higher than 1920 and 1080.

Need to convert high-resolution video? Use the free program Handbrake. Here's a tutorial on how to use it.

4. Check File Types Are Supported

Some file formats aren't compatible with MediaShout. Check our list of supported media file types to confirm your files are compatible.

5. Check Your Script File Name Length and For Emojis

Keep your script file names short—under 25 characters. Long file names can cause save errors.
Make sure your file names do not have Emojis or special characters in them. This can also cause save errors.

Isolate the Problem Cue

If you've checked everything above and still can't save, the issue might be a specific cue in your script.

  1. Create a brand new blank script.
  2. Copy and paste one cue from your problematic script into the new one.
  3. Try to save the new script. If you get the error, that cue is the problem—delete it and try again.
  4. Repeat with other cues until you identify the one causing the issue.

Once you find the problematic cue, you can either delete it or rebuild it from scratch.
