"Another version of this product..." Error

Occasionally our customers receive the error "Another version of this product is already installed" when trying to install MediaShout.

This is typically seen on a computer that MediaShout has been previously uninstalled from or deleted from.  This happens because there are registry entries in the Windows' registry that occasionally do not get deleted with the uninstall.

The first thing that we recommend doing is a clean reinstallation of MediaShout.  Here are links to a knowledge base articles that will help walk you through this process:  Doing a Clean Reinstall of MediaShout v4

If you have completed a clean reinstallation using the above instructions and still get the same error message when trying to install MediaShout, you will need to go into the Windows registry and manually delete the registry entry.  (NOTE: This is not for the novice computer user.  We typically recommend consulting your computer administrator before attempting to alter the Windows registry.)

Here are the instructions for deleting the registry entry that is inhibiting the MediaShout install:

  1. Go to Start > Run.
  2. Type “regedit”.
  3. Hit the OK button.  (This opens the Windows registry editor window.)
  4. Search for HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\A6AEF61D5184B284797963B1093A1A70   (This key may vary depending on the version you have installed.)
  5. Delete the folder with that name (the key) and then try installing MediaShout.
